The Journey From Sound to Sight
In my life up to this point I have had only one profession: Creating music. Almost every day for the past 40 years. Music for songwriters. Music for TV opens. Music for movies. Writing, producing, playing, mixing, mastering
I have been fortunate. A quick search for Scott Allan Mathews gives you the idea.
Learning to Hear
For forty years, I learned how to listen. I mean really, truly listen. For example, when I hear a song, I start by obsessing over how many milliseconds of room ambience on the snare drum. From there, I analyze and dissect a hundred other details.
I’ve spent decades learning how to hear.
Learning to See
Now I am on a new journey: learning to see.
It is not as easy as you might expect. I love the quote: "Everybody looks, but not everybody sees”
Producing music has shaped my art. In sound and music, I practice creating depth and breadth, space and illusion, surprise and emotion. Beauty, drama, mystery, love, inspiration, transcendence, and the acceptance of mistakes and the unintended.
Now, I apply these same truths to the visual arts.
Please peruse and enjoy. Maybe you’ll hear the music in my art.
